NaNoWriMo Pause

by     11 Comments    Posted under: In Which I Blog About Blogging

I miss you guys!

I’m taking a (very) tiny break from NaNoWriMo  here to say that I MISS BLOGGING.

A lot.

NaNoWriMo

But! My manuscript is coming along VERY nicely and I’m incredibly pleased with my progress and with the quality of the work I’m producing.

More than that, I’m pleased with how I am weaving a LOT of writing into my everyday life and how I’m seeing that even a small bit of wordcount every day can still add up.

Coming Up on The Blog

I’ll be back in the blogging saddle again in December, and you’d better be prepared for a TON of TeslaCon info (how many people want to know what I learned in the fist-to-cuffs demonstration? How many people know what it means if a victorian gentleman sends a lady a bouquet that includes dill? How about hearing some great writing industry information heard from Cherie Priest’s panel? Any tabletop gamers out there looking for a steampunk game to try?) at least one post talking about why I love NaNoWriMo, and then …

… then, my darling bunnies, The Editing Posts will begin.

Oh yes. If you thought PREPARING for NaNoWriMo was a massive blogging undertaking, just wait till I start editing this monster. *chortle*

Also? Anyone out there who reads my steampunk webserial, CHOOSE? BIG things on the horizon, my friends. Big things. *evil giggle*

  • Oddly enough, just this morning I thought, “Hmmm… haven’t been to Tami’s blog in a long time.” Turns out, I didn’t miss anything. :)

My NaNoPause began ten days ago, on November 9th. At that point I hit 33,832 words in my first eight days of November, bringing the MS total to 62,132. I’ve written nothing since. I’ve been trying to read it, but I’m less than two-thirds of the way through. Hopefully I can fix that this weekend because I really want to get back in there. I’ve got a sixty-two thousand word synopsis what needs some serious wordsmithing.

    • You can do it! If what you’ve got is a synopsis, then don’t forget to treat your next draft as your FIRST draft – keep that inner editor turned off and don’t polish a synopsis, write a draft. <3 Your manuscript needs you!

      • Well, just finished reading through the draft/megasynopsis about an hour ago. First half isn’t bad at all, actually. Last half is a bit . . . well, we’ll call it “uneven.” The ending I had in my headed doesn’t match at all with what spilled out of my fingers into the manuscript. Odd how that works. :)

  • Thanks for checking in with your readers! I’m glad to hear that you are making NaNo progress and haven’t started writhing on the floor all crazy-like. yet. at least you haven’t told us about it. yet. : D Will your NaNo novel go into the ‘may be published one day! don’t tell the interwebs!’ file, or will we get a chance to read it?

I am VERY excited about the December posts coming. I will be first in line to hear about fisty-cuffs and genteel flirting

This is definitely going into the "may be published one day" file, and I plan on sending you an email when it's been revised and edited to see if you'd like to be a beta reader for me. You've been with me since the very first Blue Moon post!

      • Answer: yes!

  • I have begun to read Choose, it is fun so far! I admit I didn’t really know anything about this steampunk business until your post on TeslaCon. The photos were intriguing, and I’ve always daydreamed about being able to travel back in time. I’ve even put Cherie Priest in my “to read” list. Someone should make a steampunk MMO. :)
I know you are busy right now, looking forward to more posts in Dec!

    • <3<3 Oooh, I'm so glad you're having fun with Choose!

It's interesting how few people know "steampunk" but then when they see it, they really like it. I think they ARE working on a Steampunk MMO, though I can't for the life of me remember the name of it.

  • Not sure if it’s something you’re really lookingfor Ms Priest, but I figured I’d give you a heads up in case you didn’t know about it.

The wonderfully bearded Patrick Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind) is running a Worldbuilders fundraising auction and just lately, he put up a few interesting items for bidding; a professional critique of your manuscripts by varous agents, editor and even the big man himself.

All of these auctions start at $0.01 and the proceeds go to a good cause so I figure maybe it might be something you could squeak time out of your November to glance at?

    Link is here: http://blog.patrickrothfuss.com/2010/11/auctions-a-professional-critique-of-your-manuscript/

PS: All of these auctions apparently end on December 3rd.

    =)

    • oooh, thank you for the head’s up!

Also, that is one brave, brave man. (edited to say “men and women” as it’s more than just him that’s offering) A December critique is almost certain to go to a NaNoWriMo novel, and the quality on those (unedited) is likely to be a little horrifying.

Looks like the prices are up in the hundreds of dollars now and out of my price range. Kudos to them and to the folks bidding – that money’s going to a good cause! <3
