New Blog Theme Live

GLEE

I’m like a kid with a box of sidewalk chalk in the middle of an empty parking lot, so I don’t know if I’ll ever REALLY be done tweaking the theme.

However, it is mostly done and I adore it and yes, I know it’s kind of painfully pastel but every time I see it I smile so it’s STAYING. And I refuse to apologize on behalf of the pink. The pink stays.

I’m working on a Tami-Art header image to replace the mouse up there, but he’s a pretty good placeholder for now. I have a lot of planned art that I owe other people (Kristensue, your turtles for LBB are going to be EPIC) so I probably won’t add much custom art for while.

The Process

For the curious, I started with the default WordPress twentyten theme as my base and used an online color scheme generator to pick the colors.

Steve, I know you’ve been advocating the Headway Premium theme, but my pockets have nothing but lint in them after my recent heavy wool coat purchase.

I adored the old theme, but this one is a more-than-adequate replacement. The widgetized sidebar and footer make it SO easy to maintain the data in them.

Goodies for YOU

One of the biggest benefits to the reader is the allowance for nested commenting! That’s right, my blog has entered the twenty-first century, and now makes it easier for conversation threads to be read (or ignored) as the case may be. I’m hoping it will also cut back on email comment spam for those who subscribe to comments.

Also, the widgetized sidebars allowed me to do something I’ve wanted to do for ages and add a little rotating random art thingy to the sidebar.

The new theme also has a wider reading area, so my rambles appear to take up less vertical screen real estate! Bonus!

Hopefully the larger font will make it easier to read, too. =]

  • I like it!
    Michael´s last post ..Happy Monday

    • @Michael
Woot! The pastels passed the boy test!

      • I like it all…except the header (way too plain for you, dear friend!), but since you said you’re working on it, I’ll wait.

Oh, and…nested this just for the joy of nesting! ;)

        Edit: Umm…gravatars?

        • @Steve
You know, gravitars were working on my Seekrit Testing Facility blog. Let me do some digging.

        • @Steve
GAHAR! Gravatars enabled! That was embarrassingly simple.

  • <3 it!

    (Elmer for President)

    • @Tristina
      I’ll vote for that!

  • Never apologise for pink! Nevar!

(This theme wins the stamp of approval, by the way. SUPER cute.)
Marianne´s last post ..Lissandra Millay D’Orien

    • @Marianne
Nevar! *holds up a pink flag*

      Hee, thanks!

  • *holds up a white flag* I surrender to the PINK!
Steve – Kestrel’s Aerie´s last post ..Are You Ready for Some NaNo

  • Oh, it’s adorable :D

    Never apologize for pink! <3
Courtney´s last post ..Scanning is for chumps

    • @Courtney
*glee* Thank you, ma’am! (Also, remember that pink feather “Be Saucy!” wordthing you did for me? TOTALLY matches this theme. I have it in the random image rotation!)

      • That’s funny, because the “Full of Suck” one came up when I refreshed the page to check on my comment XD

…and now there is an adorable koala. *stares at koala*…what were we talking about?
Courtney´s last post ..Scanning is for chumps

        • @Courtney
GAAAZE into the koala’s eyes. You are feeling warm and happy. The faint scent of eucalyptus reaches you. Feel the soft koala pelt. Find your center.

  • I love it! And really, you have nothing to apologize for re:pinkness. Have you SEEN my site?

    • @Camelai
ooooh, you started blogging again! I’d given up on you! *goes back and rewatches feed*

      LOVE your site design. <3

      • Yaaaay, thanks! Yeah, I stopped arting so I stopped blogging, but now I’m sewing, so I blog about that! Also, I have a tango blog (jointly with the BF) at http://tangovoice.com if you’re interested. Probably not very interesting if you’re not a tango dancer!
Camelai´s last post ..What Now-What Next

        • Ha! No, not a tango dancer. I barely do the sock-shimmy in the kitchen with nobody watching. =]

  • Ok. i’ll be the odd man out. I SUPER DUPER HUGS-FOREVER loved the old theme, so I’m going to miss it a lot and it’ll take a while for me to get used to this new one.
I am a fan of the rotating art and the nesting comments.

Me and LBB can’t wait for our turtles :]

    • @KristenSue
I loved the old theme, too. I just wish fewer other people had loved it! This one’s a BETTER theme under the hood, though, even if it’s not quite as shiny and polished on the paintjob.

  • Nice! I like the color palette and the swirly…background…flower…thing. Yeah.

    • It’s like elegant, only grungy, and magical, only wallpapery. Soothing, but fun.

      It’s the paradoxical background image!

      • I don’t see any duck, much less a pair…

        Qua, qua, quaaaaaaaa….

        • *facedesk, laughing*

  • Who moved my cheese?!?!
Charlie Hills´s last post ..Nearly Back on Track

    • I did, but I promise, it’s still perfectly safe. =]

  • Woot! It is adorable and totally Tami! <3

    • Hee. <3 Thank you!

  • Oh, I love your new design and the bunny header. You draw so rabbits characterfully, I love their paws and ears and noses…

I am also envious of your progress bar widget. Very spiffy!

    • Thanks, Mazil! I do love drawing bunnies. *grins* I have a Christmas bunny pic I need to get started on …

But the progress bar widget is dead easy! It’s not even a widget (though I wish it were) – it’s just some nested styled divs. I have it in a “Text” widget currently.

I wonder if this will work – let me try pasting one of them …

…nope, that didn’t work. I’d have to htmlentitify it, I think. Hm. Email me if you’re interested and I can toss you the code, then. =]
