Diablo 3 : Should You Play It?
(Tami here. Steven and I requested our friend Aensu give us a rundown on Diablo 3 for the blog, since we know he’s been eating/sleeping/breathing the gameplay videos ever since beta started. This is his response.)
Honestly, I don’t have a whole lot to say about it other than WHERE IS MY BETA INVITE (insert funny emoticon that my blog won’t let me share. *sadface*)
I mean, it’s Diablo. DIABLO.
I don’t know how to convince someone who never really got into D2. To me, the gameplay videos speak for themselves!
Remember the massive rodeo pulls we used to do for rep farming in WoW? Imagine a game where all the fighting is kind of like that, and there’s randomly generated bosses that may or may not be ridiculously dangerous, and everything has a tiny chance of dropping top tier raid level loot, and you don’t really have the comfort of a designated tank or designated healer. And then instead of 3 specs per class you have infinity specs per class and–have you looked the character builder? And also instead of running around clicking nodes for your crafting mats you CARVE YOUR CRAFTING MATS OUT OF MONSTER’S FACES.
It’s kinda like that. Only different.
It’s DIABLO. There’s a reason why top-down-action-rpgs are called Diablo clones and not, say, Gauntlet clones.
I mean, sure, it’s possible that I’ll get the game and after a couple hours go “Uggh this is garbage why did I ever want to play this”.
It’s also possible that I will be eaten by a bear. It’s just bloody unlikely.

Also, Diablo 3 is officially the first RPG of any type that has ever made me want to play ALL of the classes because they look awesome, rather than as an obsessive compulsion.
All classes and most specs? I love how they customized the look of the abilities depending on the socketed stone (or whatever). THAT was genius
Several specs of each class, at any rate. And there’s definitely interesting specs I haven’t thought of already.
And if you can’t think of a spec, well, just go to the character builder and activate the chat gem down at the bottom. BAM! Random spec!
It…probably wont be a very good spec, but it could be fun to do random spec playthroughs once the game’s been out for a year.
So far, my feeling from playing the beta is this: It’s a modern, updated, sharper-looking version of all the other Diablos. I’m not far in, so can’t say much about the story other than “there clearly is one developing”. Thus far, I don’t see why any fan of Diablo I or II wouldn’t immediately want to jump in on III.

It looks interesting but my gaming time and dollars are set on Star Wars: The Old Republic.
entertaining preview!!!
